THOMAS MARCHAND

Municipal in Coppet

COMMITTED TO A GOOD QUALITY OF LIFE

I have lived in Coppet for over 25 years and am very attached to the village. Over those years, through local friends, networks, associations and my political engagement, I have come to truly appreciate the chance of living in this dynamic environment, with its broad range of cultural, entertainment, and commercial offers. With its ideal location, its rich and unique history, Coppet is alive and thriving.

I am committed to maintaining a coherent political direction in promoting and upholding all decisions that will sustain and increase the quality of life in our town. This will include, for instance, an unfailing support to local associations and to projects creating links within the community, as well as to the protection of the old town and its surroundings through carefully managed development.

COMMITTED TO STABLE MANAGEMENT

Should current projections materialise, the Municipality is heading for a difficult financial situation, with an unbalanced cantonal equalisation system (“péréquation”), the reasons of which are well known. In my opinion, the only way to address the issue is to provide unwavering support to collective associations (the Region, the Association of Municipalities, Association of Mayors, … ) and fully participate in their action aimed at correcting the unequal equalisation formula as soon as feasible. It appears to me that, in true Swiss culture, such joint negotiations would be the most constructive strategy.  In the meantime though, I commit to address the gamut of concerned issues with a rigour appropriate to such challenging times.

COMMITTED TO THE ENVIRONMENT

Through its current policies, the Municipality drives important environmental activities, such as the distance heating in Rojalets or the electrical equipment of its public roads department. Furthermore, I suggest making a strong statement on this matter through the creation of a permanent environmental committee that would be tasked with the review of all legislative and budgetary proposals from an ecological perspective.

COMMITTED WITH SPECIFIC COMPETENCE AND SKILLS

For this election, the Municipality has decided not to rearrange its administrative subdivisions. The main fields that the newly elected Town Councillor will be handling are communication, tourism, culture, local associations and societies, and businesses/shopkeepers. My own professional experience in communication (Publium SA) and tourism (Destinations. ch), my background in local associations  (Château en Scène) and my political experience (Coppet Council, Nyon Region and NRT/La Côte Tourisme) are particularly relevant to the issues included in this portfolio. I thus trust that my competences and capacities will allow me to achieve the goals that will be incumbent to the new Councillor.

MY PROPOSALS

COMMUNICATION: A MAJOR CHALLENGE FOR OUR COMMUNE

picto-1.png
Communication will be a major challenge with regard to large forthcoming projects, in particular in relation to the roadwork for the upgrading of the main street through the village. I intend proposing that the Municipality and the Council establish effective channels of communication through highly reactive digital tools, Web Applications and social media. I would also hope to strengthen the Municipality’s communication culture: much is already there -- it is a matter of tapping existing resources.

BUSINESSES, SHOPKEEPERS AND LOCAL AND CULTURAL ASSOCIATIONS

picto-2.png
Through their various and multiple activities, the local and cultural associations and the businesses established in Coppet are the village’s heartbeat and represent a major unifying element for the community. All of them play an active role in respect of Coppet’s quality of life. I believe the Municipality must actively support all initiatives that sustain their key position in the village. Coppet should be an incubator and a guide for cultural, community and commercial endeavours.

TOURISM: A REGIONAL PROJECT

picto-4.png
Though tourism can be thought of and supported at the local level, it must however be formulated in a regional framework. In my mind, we can define a clear and appealing offer with local players through the contacts I have established in my functions at Région de Nyon and Nyon Région Tourisme, so as to incorporate this into a regional strategy.
